Easy Beginner Wire Wrapped Loop Jewelry Tutorials

Beginner Series Part 1

I finished teaching my last set of summer classes yesterday. The students thought it would be a good idea to send you the class tutorials in the order we use them, starting with beginner ones and work up to the more advanced ones rather than a few here and there.

In class, we start with the basics.  The first wire project is a strung bracelet with wire wrapped loops and jump rings done many times so students become comfortable with the techniques. This fun bracelet that jingles lightly when you move.  It does not really matter if all the wire wrapped loops are not perfect because you do not really look at them.  You look at the bracelet as a whole.    Then we go on to earrings.  By that time students can easily create a set of matching earrings and are amazed at how easy they are and, of course, how cheap they are to make.

When students first start, they do not have a "stash" like we do so I supply students with kits to make the bracelet and earrings.  Most usually purchase extras after completing the projects because they
turn out so well.

Enjoy!

Rubber Band Necklace Tutorial

Posted: 29 Jun 2012 04:00 AM PDT

We didn't have store bought jump ropes when I was growing up.  We just made them out of rubber bands. These were simply doubled up and linked making a long chain.  The rubber bands came in all sorts of colors and were very inexpensive.

Fast forward a lot of time and we have the a new use of these rubber bands.  Thanks to Madeleine of Rags to Couture for the inspiration.  I really like how she used a group of rubber bands to make a more substantial chain.

This is the sort of project that youngsters will love to.  So if you are buying rubber bands in bulk, may be you could make a one for yourself.

Rubber might seem like an unlikely material but it is used in jewelry.  Chain mailers use rubber rings to add color and stretch to their creations.  Several recycled jewelry artisans also create with this material.

It's one thing to be committed to saving energy but it is quite another to promote it in a uniquely jewelry way!  Jonathan Hunt's solar panel jewelry designs certainly does and make great conversation starters!

He takes pieces of actual photovoltaic cells panels either laminates them or embedded in a clear photo stable epoxy resin before being attached to jewelry findings or cord.
