Extreme Bling - The Vampire Woman's Body Modifications

Posted: 30 Sep 2011 04:00 AM PDT

Think your teenager's lip piercing is too much?  You definitely haven't yet met 35-year-old Maria Jose Cristerna.

But this Mexican mother of 4 and tattoo artist is not the sort of person you'd like to encounter at night...at least not with a cross pendant and garlic bulbs on hand.  That's because she is known as the Vampire Woman.

She has titanium horn and fang tooth implants in addition to numerous piercings. Maria cites horrific childhood abuse as the reason why she needed to reinvent herself. She says she now leads a normal life despite her unusual appearance.

She said, "The horns I have are a symbol of strength and were implanted without anesthetic. I had the fangs done because I loved vampires as a little girl and I changed the color of my eyes so they were how I really wanted them to be."

She also explained, "Tattooing is my way of being immortal, of really being a vampire and not dying – leaving my work on other people's skin."

The following  video (in Spanish) shows her at a tattoo exhibition earlier this year.

How to Make Right Angle Weave Bracelet Tutorials

The right angle weave or cross-weaving is one of my favorite beading stitches. It is a versatile stitch which can be done with different sized beads.

The Etsy Russian Team has a blog and one of their members, Svetlana posted a simple right angle weave  bracelet tutorial with freshwater pearls and seed beads. It's a really sweet design which can be customized with different colors.

Not that keen on tiny seed beads?  Then check out Becky P's pearl and Swarovski crystals design which is even simpler and suitable for utter beginners.  It can be used for a necklace or bracelet.

This beautiful green crystal bracelet by Bee Jang is rated as beginner as well. Note that the seed beads form bases under the bicone clusters.

Jewelry and Polymer Clay Heaven's Cobalt Blue Elegance bracelet tutorial also uses right angle weave. It's a stunning design!

If you've not seen it before, then check out  right angle weave tennis bracelet tutorial by Karla on the Aunties' Beads videos - Part 1 and Part 2. The bicones also sit on the seed beads as on Bee Jang's tutorial.

How to Make a Pillow Box Tutorials

Posted: 28 Sep 2011 04:00 AM PDT

DIY Pillow Box Tutorial by Botanical Paperworks
I've always provided ordinary jewelry gift boxes when selling jewelry. But when I started to sell my designs online, those ready made boxes would not do as they aren't flat enough for Canada Post's "slot of doom"  (see my past post How to Package and Ship Jewelry).

So I use pillow boxes.  Even if you don't sell jewelry, they make a great alternative to regular boxes if you like making them for gifts.

Not only are they elegant, they could be shipped flat without looking weird as you can see from the comparative picture below :

If you really like them but don't want to buy them in bulk then make them yourself! Use any of the tutorials mentioned here. If you like to custom the look, decorate them with ribbons, paint, stickers  and so on.

I especially  like Anusayshow's tutorial who suggests using scrap book paper which is thick enough for making pillow boxes. There are so many pretty designs to choose from if you aren't into plain boxes made from cardstock.  The pillow box is quick to make because a CD disc is used to make the rounded edge and score the folds.

It's so much easier to see it done, right? So check out this video tutorial by The Spotted Sparrow.  Stay with the video - the actual demo begins after some written instructions.
