Finger Armor Rings by Raven Eve Jewelry

Posted: 04 May 2012 04:16 AM PDT

The articulated finger armor rings look like they could be pieces from medieval gauntlets! They are sometimes called full finger rings, claw and Goth rings.

That last name should give you a clue which subculture likes them! But they have also been spotted on a number of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Heidi Klum and Victoria Beckham which also explains their popularity.

Many of the commercial finger armor rings I've seen are heavy, plated masculine affairs which often sport but not always, a spike or claw. These could do some damage if you're not careful! They also remind me of nail guards in a way. These were popular in China in past centuries. You can see a picture of these in my past post on The Last Empress of China and her 3000+ Jewelry Boxes.

However, one outstanding Etsy artisan,  Raven Eve Jewelry who specializes in Goth jewelry, creates really feminine pieces. They are so pretty that you don't have to be into Goth to want to wear these. As you can see from these lovely pieces I've chosen to feature from her collection, the clever use of filigree pieces softens the look.

Hat tip to Donna of Sew and So for inspiring this post.

More Great Yarn Crochet Bracelet Tutorials To Try

Posted: 03 May 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Remember my crochet yarn and chain bracelet tutorial?  I used chain combined with yarn and sometimes beads. But if you don't have chain, you could still make an awesome bracelet. EVEnl on Cut Out and Keep has the tutorial which uses seed beads.

These wonderful bangle style bracelets were created by Emily of The Boy Trifecta.  You can easily make several to match different outfits.

You can easily guess why this crochet bracelet tutorial by Crocheterie was called the Octopus bracelet! Tanya also has an Etsy store.

I particularly like Mary Pueschner's Party Bracelets on the Caron yarn site. There are two crochet patterns one of which uses hair elastic. The ponytail elastic ones can also function as they are intended for, not just jewelry.

This lacy bracelet tutorial by Very Berry Handmade looks delicate because it used embroidery thread.

Elisabeth Andree created a really pretty flower motif design which can be used for either a bracelet or necklace.

Divya of Jewels of Sayuri created her simple Kakatiya bracelet from colorful embroidery thread and some focal beads. You'll have to read her post to find out why she called it so.

It's easy to do and will suit the younger crowd as a kind of friendship bracelet.  One variation would be to braid the threads.  But you could also use yarn on larger holed beads,  leave longer lengths of yarn on either side and crochet!
