Hi, friend! |
Welcome to the first edition of Food Pix, where food and entertainment share a table. In this collaboration with Edible Manhattan, we'll be serving up the culinary moment in media—the books, podcasts, trends, TV shows, and movies shaping food culture right now. |
Springtime means it’s time to linger a little longer over dinner with friends, take the long way home for a sweet treat, and spend the night binging the show everyone’s talking about. Here’s what we’re excited about right now. |

🎬 Tony |
A24’s first trailer for Tony skips the “celebrity chef” years entirely and heads straight for young Anthony Bourdain chain-smoking his way through chaotic Provincetown kitchens long before Kitchen Confidential made him famous. |

The Bear Takes a Road Trip to Gary, IN |
The Bear dropped a surprise prequel episode this month, “Gary,” featuring Richie and Carmy’s late brother Mikey making a pilgrimage to Koney King, the nearly 100-year-old Gary, Indiana, institution famous for its chili dogs, chili cheeseburgers, and old-school lunch counter energy. |

It may seem hard to believe but matcha’s popularity still hasn’t peaked! In fact, Yelp’s 2026 Food & Drinks Trend Report says the drink is only getting bigger. Between guava matchas, matcha cold foam, and increasingly complicated cafe creations, demand has gotten so intense it’s reportedly contributing to supply shortages in Japan. |
“Fricy” foods, aka fruity-spicy combinations, are being pushed as this summer’s next big flavor trend. Expect to see plenty of jalapeño pineapple cocktails and hot honey watermelon appetizers on menus everywhere soon. |
Dirty soda somehow keeps getting bigger. What started as a hyper-regional Utah specialty of soda with cream, syrups, and fruit mix-ins has now gone fully mainstream, with Taco Bell, Pepsi, and even Mike’s Hard Lemonade all launching their own versions this year. |

What We’re Eating This Month |
Nostalgic comfort foods are getting increasingly luxurious upgrades right now, and Anna Stockwell’s The Butter Book leans all the way in. Her “Grown-Up Buttered Pasta” recipe feels fancy enough to impress a dinner guest (it has anchovies and wine in it), but not so fancy you can’t just eat it straight from the pot when cooking for yourself. |

Inglourious Basterds! Quite possibly the most stressful plate of strudel ever served onscreen. |
