Book Review and Giveaway - Creative Wire Jewelry

Posted: 27 Jun 2011 04:00 AM PDT

Sixth and Springs  recently sent me a new jewelry book to review and there is an extra copy for one lucky winner! It's called Creative Wire Jewelry and it's by Ariella Nachshon who lives in Tel Aviv.

It's a 40+ design book that will help assuage the demand for ever popular wire jewelry projects!  The jewelry style leans towards contemporary and funky.  There are also a number of long necklace and chain designs  reflecting current trends.

The author's project difficulty rating might be off putting to some as she rated what I would have considered intermediate level as advanced.  Really, this book particularly suits beginners as many of the projects are relatively easy.  The beginner who is ready to transition into intermediate wire work will have a number of more challenging designs to try.

The projects cover many basic jewelry and wire work techniques which will benefit the learner such as how to make simple bails, scrolling, hammering and easy wire crochet and wire wrapping. The author also encourages the use of free-form wire work and shows how to make simple wire shapes. One example is the mixed media leaf necklace design on the lower right hand side of the book's cover.

My absolute favorite from the book has to be this stunning wire mesh design :
