Using Linoleum Cutting Tools for Making Polymer Clay Jewelry

I remember making lino cut prints in my secondary school art class. At the time, I thought it was a lot of fun but little did I know then that the technique and tools could also help in jewelry making! Especially if you hold a high premium on custom designs. Designer and instructor, Ludmila Bakulina, shows how you can make your own custom stamp for polymer clay work.

The linoleum and wood carving/cutting tools like this set are not overly expensive. Nor are the easy cut lino sheets. People also use the tools for pumpkin carving - I like the idea of having more than one use for tools!

Also consider using stamps with stamping ink for shrink plastic jewelry making.

The other way to use these tools is to cut into multicolored layers of polymer clay. The cuts will reveal the colors below. A great alternative to mokune gane work! This tutorial is by the Unruly Housewife. She has a neat tip on how to use little scraps of clay at the end.

You can also use the lino cutting tools on cured clay - both polymer clay as well as resin clay.
