Gorgeous Wire Knit or Net Woven Earrings Tutorial

Posted: 22 Jul 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Remember that Viking knit or net woven wire bezel tutorial for pendants I wrote about?  Well, here is another outstanding idea along the same lines!  The tutorial is by a Hungarian artisan, Jade. She made earrings but we all know that pendants are also possible!

It's a little hard to read as Google Translate doesn't work properly. But fortunately Jade provided key photographs so we can see how she made it.  I must say that the net weaving really does frame the beads oh so prettily.

The beads she used are not cabochons but vertically drilled ones.  If you have cabochons, then adapt the design so there are additional wires behind them to hold them securely.

Baroque Color Choices for Jewelry Making

Posted: 21 Jul 2012 04:16 PM PDT

Some color combinations are easier than others.  The Baroque color palette though is perhaps a little more challenging. A wonderful example of a typical Baroque color combination came about when Pam created her  earrings and necklace set at a workshop earlier this year.

The distinctive mix of black, gold and purple hues gives a sense of richness and extravagance to the design. Pan did a fabulous job of choosing the right beads and colors  to make her design work.

That stylistic grandeur and drama we now know as baroque began in 1600 and flourished in the 17th and 18th century. The opulent look was encouraged by the Roman Catholic church in response to the Protestant Reformation and was introduced in the arts and in architecture.
