I don't know about you, but I certainly like the easy way out when trying to add color to some jewelry making media.
This surface colouring tutorial for polymer clay using artist's chalk pastels is not difficult at all. It is by Neena Shilvock of
Caprilicious Jewelry. Note:
not oil pastels.
She called it constellation jewelry as some of the pieces do look like something fabulous seen through a telescope. But I really love the above earrings as it reminds me of Monet's work, I must try this with resin clay some day.
Neena describes how to add the pastel shavings with or without liquid clay. She used dimensional glaze to finish off but I also agree with her suggestion that using epoxy resin is yet another good way.
Want more precision? Consider using stencils.
If you take up some fine shavings with a brush, you can apply subtle color on the polymer clay.
Watch Crafty Sandra, young instructor on Youtube demonstrate with a makeup brush. Her tiny baguette does look cool with the mix of yellow, orange and dark brown chalk pastels she uses.
