Metal smith designer and instructor, Melissa Muir
demonstrated how she makes her gorgeous copper flower pendant in this video. She also gives viewers a serious case of tool envy! She does not hand saw the petals but uses custom dies and her hydraulic press to cut the flower shapes quickly and easily. And the sanding machine with what looks like a ventilation grid? Sigh.
It is also a wonderful demonstration of how skilled she is in shaping the petals. I like how she chips out bits from a block of wood to do so. I have never seen a leather doming pad until now. The other techniques she used are sweat soldering and a bit of gem setting. Makes you want to take a metal work class, doesn't it?
