Easy Peasy Crackle Effect for Polymer Clay Jewelry

I like easy ways to make something fabulous. And this easy peasy crackle effect tutorial for polymer clay jewelry by the Unruly Housewife fits the bill! The trick is to basically crack a very thin briefly baked (5 min) polymer sheet on a base of thicker clay.  Fun coloring with alcohol inks really makes this technique shine!

But judging from the comments on the tutorial, some people do have trouble cracking that sheet. If you have trouble, try some of these suggestions offered by the designer and others :

  • bake the top of a thin sheet of polymer clay with a heat gun and then put it through the pasta machine
  • make the thin polymer clay sheet even more brittle by doing another short bake
Consider adding a layer of epoxy resin as the final finish. The crackle piece will look like it is under glass!
