Die Cut Shrink Plastic Motif in Assemblage Jewelry Pendant Design

Do you have a diecutter like a Sizzix or even better a machine like the Cricut or Silhouette?  Then consider using shrink plastic to cut out, very cleanly,  much larger design elements. Many of the premade dies or patterns are usually way too big for jewelry making. Even if you don't own any of these machines, larger hand drawn designs can be more easily cut out than struggling with itsy bitsy little designs.

The shrink plastic results in dramatically smaller pieces.  This tutorial by Richele Christensen over on California Art Girl is a gorgeous example of how a bird on a branch Sizzix design is shrunk down in this assemblage jewelry pendant design.

I like how the designer colored the bird both front and back to get a unique handcrafted look.  Mixed media artisans - take note!
