Many of the premade dies or patterns are usually way too big for jewelry making. Even if you don't own any of these machines, larger hand drawn designs can be more easily cut out than struggling with itsy bitsy little designs. The shrink plastic results in dramatically smaller pieces.  This tutorial by Richele Christensen over on California Art Girl is a gorgeous example of how a bird on a branch Sizzix design is shrunk down in this assemblage jewelry pendant design.
