How to Add a Folding Photo Album to a Pocket Watch or Locket

Posted: 17 Mar 2012 04:00 AM PDT

We've all seen folding picture post cards. You know, those that open up like an accordion. Well, here is a really nifty tutorial which uses the idea but for a pocket watch shell or even locket.

The original tutorial by Destri, the founding blogger over at The Mother Huddle makes use of  the shell of a pocket watch. The idea is to be able to attach it to a purse or a key chain. A pretty locket version will also do nicely for a necklace design. Destri also suggests old makeup compact cases.

What's also clever about this tutorial is the recycling of the pocket watch shell after the innards of the watch is used for steampunk designs!

How to Make a Layered Paper Map Ring

Posted: 16 Mar 2012 02:30 PM PDT

There are a number of ways to make paper jewelry. Rolling and folding paper are a couple of the most common techniques. Some artisans also use paper pulp to build up forms. Decoupage is another alternative method as is quilling.

Here is another way. The paper ring by ChrysN on Instructables is constructed by layering a strip of a colorful map. As with all paper jewelry, sealing afterwards is good idea.

Maps are really cool for jewelry making. I'm not alone in thinking that! But you could also use other papers.

This project will definitely suit the younger set on a dull and dreary day or on a long school vacation like Spring Break!
