If you have some pretty ones, check out this awesome  tip from Lisa Yang who shows how she turned a button into a clasp with some simple wiring.  I agree with her that the button really hides the clasp and becomes a focal in itself. This is a large button measuring 1.5 inch across so the wire gauge looks deceptively thin. But the designer used 16 G wire. 18 G and 16 G are good strong wire gauges to use for clasps.
