Did anybody else spend their July afternoons trying to turn a flat patch of grass into a luge run? I am talking about the kind of homemade slide that would probably have child protective services at your door within ten minutes today. We did not have the fancy plastic ones from the store with the inflatable bumpers. Those were for the rich kids over on the hill, and they always seemed to pop anyway. |

If my father was feeling particularly generous, he would buy the long roll, maybe twenty feet of it. If not, we made do with whatever drop cloth was left over from when he painted the guest room the color of a dried apricot. |
