Somewhere two streets over, the bells would start, tinny and a little warped, the same eight notes over and over, and every kid within earshot froze mid-sentence. Whatever the game was, it stopped. A ball would still be rolling down the gutter with nobody chasing it, because chasing it was no longer the priority. |
