THE BEADING GEM'S JOURNAL

How to Make Watch Band Tutorials

One of my friends owns over 50 watches!  She loves collecting different designs and they are her signature fashion statement.  You might also have a favorite watch whose band needs replacing.  So here are some awesome watch strap tutorials to inspire!

The colorful woven faux leather watch band above is by Emilia Lew, one half of the S.T.E.L blog.  Note that the band is one piece.  You will have to follow this Youtube video to find out how easy it is to pop out the spring loaded pins on both sides of the watch face to install the finished strap.

Beaders can naturally come up with watch bands to match their favorite color in their wardrobes!  This crystal watch band tutorial is by Bee Jang.  She made it for herself using salvaged watch clasps.  I think that was the source of  her problems in trying to get the right length.  Fit will be easier if you bead as for a bracelet with a focal and use regular bracelet closures.

If crystals don't do anything for you, consider two holed tile beads which are strung on clear elastic.  Check out Carolyn and Dave Good of Two Good Claymates's tutorial.  They show how to hide the elastic knots.

I like this simple replacement leather watch strap tutorial which recycles the original watch's metal components. It is by Matt over on Design Sponge. The little box stitches really do add to the design.

So many people now prefer to use their phones instead of wearing watches.  But watches are also functional bracelets so I don't think they will go extinct.  And when Apple comes out with their rumored iWatch, look out!  The fashionistas will be styling their own straps!
