Tiny Crochet Doily Jewelry by McCordWorks

Leisa McCord of Houston, Texas,  has a near perfect name for what she does. She makes tiny crochet doily jewelry.  It's not cord she uses but fine silk beading cord or crochet thread.  Her beautiful little medallions are sized to fit metal rings. Unlike a lot of yarn jewelry, Leisa suspends hers with jump rings all around.

Leisa's work is sold on her Etsy.  She explained, "I learned to crochet at the age of eight. My grandmother taught me, starting me off with a wooden hook she whittled herself. Over time, as I scaled up my interest, I scaled down my dimensions." Didn't she ever!  These are finely crochet works. The earrings are especially challenging as they are so small.

Leisa added, "Because I am interested in preserving the disappearing needlecraft of thread crochet – the patterns and the technique – my goal is to promote its appreciation by displaying it in new ways."

Her inspiration comes from her growing collection of 1930's, 40's and 50's crochet patterns.  She said, "These vintage patterns are a starting point for many of my designs, and though the thread and hooks called for are quite fine to begin with, I have in most cases scaled them down even further to make them small enough to be wearable as jewelry. Other designs are my own original patterns."  They are fine indeed in more than just scale!
