How to Finger Knit a Fabric Bracelet

Posted: 12 Nov 2011 04:19 AM PST

Finger knitting was fun back when we were kids. It's still fun even for grown-ups. For one thing, it's a quick way to make jewelry components.

Some time ago, I had a ball making the cord for a necklace which was inspired by a tutorial by Erica of PS I Made This.

Vanessa of V and Co also wrote a tutorial using the same general principle but for a jersey knit bracelet.

The use of stretchy fabric is clever because no clasp is needed. She provides the instruction for 2, 3 or 4 fingered work depending on how wide one likes the bracelet.

It's a great way to use up old t-shirts and to coordinate a casual outfit.  A metal-less piece like this will appeal to those who are allergic to metal.

If you have trouble following her instructions, check out the accompanying videos - Part 1 and Part 2.

When You Haven't the Time...Keep it Simple

Posted: 12 Nov 2011 04:20 AM PST

Keeping it simple is the way to go when you haven't the time to bead. Shown here is my friend and co-instructor's beaded necklace - a simple but lovely design with glass pearls and seed beads.

She actually completed this during a workshop when she had the time in between helping other beaders.  Another tip to speed up designs is the use of chain towards the back of the necklace.
