People sought to deflect back such malevolent looks by wearing talismans or charms with eye or blocking hand designs.  Jill Lawrence is a modern artist who still celebrates the evil eye motif in her gorgeous wire woven designs. All the glass eyes in her Etsy store called Twisted Sister Arts are hand painted.  Her wonderfully intricate wire wrapped sections surround and hold the eyes. Each design even takes on the shape of an eye with upper eyelids too.  Her fans include those who like Gothic styles. Her designs surely won't go amiss with Halloween or cosplay enthusiasts either. Eye-catching, indeed!  Her inspiration comes from an old quote "Eyes are the windows to the soul" which is a variant of a proverb dating back to Roman times.
