Make Hair Pin or Clip Jewelry Tutorials

Posted: 18 Apr 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Have you seen the shocking prices of pretty hair pins these days?  Well, there is only one remedy - make your own! You will be able to make them exactly how you like them. They will also make great gifts.

I just adore the beautiful vintage brass Lotus Flower Hair Pins by Ornamentea above.  The beads and crystals are wired onto the filigrees using beading wire.

Like a lot of bling, then check out the Valentine Hair Pin from Create Your Style with Swarovksi Elements. The heart crystal is covered with a bit of lace for a wonderful effect!

Ashley's wonderful tutorial on Feather Hair Pieces - sort of miniature fascinators - is another standout. She uses feathers, buttons and old or broken pieces of jewelry to adorn snap on hair clips.  You probably have to use say a felt of suede base first if you wish to use hair pins.

Emi of Small Good Things is a designer whom I have featured before. Her Poppy Mallow hair pin tutorial is her take on an Anthropologie design. I particularly like the use of a bead cap to cup the crystal (or pearl as shown in her other design option).

Using lace makes a hair pin ultra feminine as shown by the tutorial by Rebecca from My Girlish Whims.

I don't really like fake flowers but changed my mind after I saw Carmen's Rose Petal Hair Clip tutorial on her blog Roca and Company. She dismantled a cheap fake rose, cleverly spray painted it and dressed it with beaded centers before attaching on a a hair clip. This tutorial will also work to adorn hats, bags etc.

Have no time?  Then check out Heather of BluKatKraft's Statement Bobby Pin necklace! Bobby pins are not only for your hair but can be easily used to make quick necklaces. I had not realized bobby pins came in so many colors until I read her post! A thin leather cord necklace will also work instead of the fine chain.
